What is the origin of frictional electricity |
|
Answer» ANSWER: LOOSE electrons in the outermost ORBIT of atoms. The transfer of electrons on rubbing two different things lead to formation of charges on different bodies. DETAILED: There are free electrons attached to the surfaces of just about everything. So when you scrape a non-conducting material over the surface of another non-conductor you literally scrape off the electrons from the one. And that adds electrons to the other. Those electrons stay there until the SCRAPER TOUCHES a conductor. At which time all the electrons that were TRAPPED on the scraper jump off it and onto the conductor, often with a loud snap and an arc that can be seen in the dark. |
