It was discovered by the scientists of Botanical Survey of India. It is a small shrub. It grows up to a length of 1 metre. This new plant has been named after former President of India Abdul Kalam. This finding has been published in the journal Phytotaxa. This new species is seen in wet, shaded areas of subtropical moist semi-evergreen forests, at an altitude of 50-100 m.
