What is the difference between soaps and detergents

Answer» the micelle formation takes place when beacause the hydrocarbon chain of soap molecules are hydrophobic which are insoluble in water but the ionic ends of the soap molecules are hydrophilic and hence soluble in water. In a soap micelle, the uncharged end of the hydrocarbon chain are on the inside whereas the chared ionic end are on the outside. A micelle will not be formed in other solvents such as ethanol beacause the chain of sope molecule are soluble in organic solvents like ethanol
Soaps clean dirt in soft water while detergent clean dirt in both hard sa well as soft waterSops are biodegradable while detergent are non biodegradable.
