Protochordates are commonly CALLED LOWER chordates. They lack a HEAD and a cranium, so they are also known as Acraniata. Protochordates consists of three sub-phyla based on the property of NOTOCHORD. They are Hemichordata, Urochordata and CEPHALOCHORDATA.
