Answer» The Rowlatt Act was passed by Britishers in 1919. This act gave the enormous power to the britishers and also allowed to detent any person without any trial.So Gandhiji was against this law so he launched hartal on 6th April,in which rallies were organised and shops were closed . At that time General Dyer was the head of the government.He wants to put the feeling of terror in Indians people.On 13th April 1919, Many people were came to Jallianwalla Bagh for celebrating baisakhi fair and others were doing protest against government.So General Dyer took the command and closed the exit point of Bagh and fired upon the people . Thousands of people died . As the news spread many people took to the streets and clashes with the police and attacks on the Government buildings. And the government ? ? also gave the answers by brutal repression \xa0The Rowlatt Act (1919) was passed by the British government despite the united opposition of the Indian members. This Act gave enormous powers to the government to repress political activities and allowed detention of any person without trial for two years.Gandhiji wanted non-violent civil disobedience against such unjust laws. Rallies were organised in different cities. Alarmed by the popular upsurge, British administration imposed martial law in Amritsar. On 13th April, 1919, General Dyer fired at the innocent people who gathered in Jallianwalla Bagh killing hundreds.Reaction of People As the news spread, crowds took to the streets and there were strikes, clashes with the police and attacks on government buildings. |
