blastosis FETALIS is HEMOLYTIC anemia in the fetus (or neonate, as erythroblastosis neonatorum) caused by transplacental transmission of maternal antibodies to FETAL red BLOOD cells. The DISORDER usually results from incompatibility between maternal and fetal blood groups, often Rho(D) antigens.
