Dry ice is solidified CARBON dioxide and it is called so because Carbon dioxide has no liquid state. Dry ice directly sublimates to gaseous Carbon dioxide.

As FAR as storage and transportation is concerned, it is conventionally packed in thick STYROFOAM BOXES that are insulating and prevent human contact as dry ice can CAUSE cold burns on contact.
