What is difference between evolution and speciation? |
| Answer» Evolution: (i) Evolution is the sequence of gradual change which takes place in the primitive organisms over millions of years and new species are produced. Since the evolution is of the living organisms, so it is called ‘organic evolution’.(ii) It helps an organism to survive in its surroundings.(iii) Evolution is considered as a progressive process.Speciation : (i) Speciation is the evolution of reproductive isolation among once – interbreeding populations. That is the development of one or more species from an existing species.(ii) It helps in adaptation to new environmental conditions.(iii) Geographical isolation plays an important role in speciation. | |
