In general terms, "Deamination" can be defined as the PROCESS which promotes the usage of excess of amino acids which cannot be INCORPORATED into the protoplasm.

Deamination mainly takes place in the liver cells.

  • Deamination is referred to as the removal of surplus of proteins and amino acids.

  • Deamination is also described as the removal of amino group from the CARBOXYL group.

  • Deamination leads to the formation of ammonia and KETO acid.

  • The process of deamination is further classified into two types, namely- "OXIDATIVE deamination" and "Hydrolytic deamination".
