  • Therefore, So, √3a = 4r

  • Now, in an edge length, 2r DISTANCE is covered radius and THUS, the remaining distance is a−2r which is uncovered.
  • This implies, Fraction of uncovered edge = (a−2r​) / a

                                                                     = a ( 1 - 2(√3 / 4) / a

                                                                     = 0.136

  • Therefore, the fraction of edge length occupied will be -

        = 1 - 0.136

        = 0.864
