It created mutual hatred, misbelief and enmity between Communist Russia and Capitalist USA. Both the USA and the USSR were in the possession of nuclear weapons. They maintained secret alliances and treaties. Ex: NATO, WARSAW. Always they created a tension of war. As the rival powers accumulated destructive weapons the world was constantly threatened by a nuclear holocaust. People of all countries lived in constant fear of war.
