What do you understand by conservation? Describe the methods how biological resources are conserved. |

Answer» Conservation: The protection, preservation Management, or restoration of natural environments and the ecological communities that inhabits them. Conservation is generally held to induce the management of human use of natural resources for current public benefits and substaninable social and economical utilization. Biological resources includes wild life and forests. Following are the steps to Conserve wild life: (i) Establishment of national parts and biosphere reserves or nature reserves (ii) Establishment of gene banks: Gene banks are protected areas where valuable plants facing extinection are grown. The vegetative parts and seeds of such plants are preserved (iii) Collection and preservation of germ plasm material (iv) Legislation for conservation: IUCN is directly responsible for the protection of nature and natural resources (v) Control on over exploitation Following are the methods to conserve forests: (i) The cutting of forest for timber should be planned. If a plant is to be cut another plant of the same type should be planted. (ii) Increasing demand of firewood can be reduced by providing alternative sources of energy such as biogas (iii) Modern methods should now be used |
