What did the Prince learn from the sights he saw and the conversation he had with Channa during his first visit to the city? How did it effect his life?

Answer»

At the end of his second visit, the Prince saw some people carrying a dead body on a bier. They were saying ‘Ram, Ram, O Ram.’ They put it on a heap of wood and burnt it to ashes.

In a very short time all was burnt to ashes. This scene moved the Prince deeply. He asked Channa about it. Channa told him that this is the fate of every man. Every man has to meet this fate again and again.

The eyes of Siddhartha were full of tears. He saw towards the sky and thought for a while. Then he said, “The world is caught in the net of woes and death. The pleasures of life are false. They end into sorrow. In our life youth is delightful, old age is painful and then the end is death.”

Then he said to Channa, “I have seen more than enough. Now take me home.”
