What are the relation between matter, element, molecule and atom

Answer»

An ATOM is the SMALLEST constituent unit of matter. Every atom is composed of a nucleus and one or more electrons which revolves around it continuously.

An element is a chemical substance consisting of atoms having the same number of PROTONS in their nuclei. So, it is pure as made up only of the same types of atoms.
For EXAMPLE: Hydrogen element is made up of two hydrogen atoms. There are currently 118 elements exist of which 94 are found in nature while 24 are synthetic.

A group of two or more atoms are COMBINED by chemical bonds to form molecule. They are electrically neutral i.e. neither positively nor negatively charged. They may be made up of same atoms or different atoms.

When two or more elements combined by chemical bonds form a chemicalcompound. For example: Two atoms of hydrogen are combined with single atom of Oxygen to form water.
