What are the reasons of conflict between Sinhala and Tamilians in Sri Lanka

Answer» Like most other\xa0conflicts of\xa0South Asia, the origins\xa0of\xa0this rift can be traced backed to colonial times. The\xa0Sinhalese\xa0say\xa0Tamils\xa0received preferential treatment under British rule (1796-1948) and point to the disproportionate number\xa0of Sri Lankan Tamil\xa0civil servants, doctors and lawyers at the time\xa0of\xa0independence.\xa0The introduction of the\xa0Sinhala-only act in 1956 triggered riots in Sri Lanka. Further discrimination against the\xa0Tamil\xa0population in Sri Lanka in cultural, political, economic areas led to some\xa0Tamils\xa0harboring resentment against the\xa0Sinhalese\xa0groups and the Government.
