What are the factors which affect the light propagation through an optical fibre?

Answer»

In a fibre, the refractive index of core and cladding depends on wavelength. Each PROPAGATING wavelength "sees" a different refractive index. Therefore those different wavelengths in each pulse will TRAVEL at slightly different speeds, which CAUSES distortion LEADING to pulse broadening in TIME.
