Answer»

A carbohydrate is a biomolecule consisting of CARBON, hydrogen and oxygen atoms, usually with a hydrogen–oxygen atom ratio of 2:1 and thus with the empirical formula Cₘₙ. This formula holds true for monosaccharides.

IMPORTANCE:

Your BODY looks at CARBOHYDRATES as fuel, so one of the main functions of carbohydrates is SUPPLYING energy to the body. Your brain is particularly in need of the simple carbohydrate glucose as an energy source. So supplying energy to the brain is another important function.

SOURCE:

Carbohydrates provide fuel for the central nervous system and energy for working muscles. They also prevent protein from being used as an energy source and enable fat metabolism, ACCORDING to Iowa State University.
