Major forms of power sharing in modern democracy are:• Power shared among different organs of government - In democracy power is shared among different organs of government at same level that is legislative, executive and judiciary. Is also known as horizontal distribution of power. No organ can exercise unlimited power as each organ of government checks the other.• Power shared among different levels of government: In federal form of Government like that of India, power is shared among different level of government that is union/central government and state government. This is also known as vertical distribution of power.• Division of power among political parties, pressure groups and movements: Political party are group of people contesting election to hold power in government. Citizens have right to choose among various candidates. But when no party gets majority, two or more parties form alliance to form a government. Also pressure groups and interest groups have any indirect share in government power.• Social groups: power may be shared among different social groups such as religious groups or linguistic groups. In India there are constitutional and legal arrangements, for socially backward classes and women to be represented in legislature and administration.
