Answer» Esters are sweet smelling compounds. They are formed by the reaction of a carboxylic acid with an alcohol in the presence of conc. sulphuric acid. For example, ethyl ethanoate is prepared by reacting ethanoic acid and ethanol in the presence of conc.sulphuric acid.
Esters are usually volatile liquids having sweet smell or pleasant smell.
