1.	What are auxochromes? Give an example.
Answer» It is a group which itself does not act as chromophore but when attached to the chromophore, it shifts the adsorption towards longer wavelength along with an increase in the intensity of adsorption. Examples: -OH, -NH₂ , -NHR, -NR₂ are auxochromes.
