Two friends bought two bicycles whoseprices were in the ratio of 1:5. If theysold them at a loss of 10%. thedifference of the money earned by themwas Rs. 3600. What was the cost price ofthe costlier cycle?

Answer»

Let cost of first cycle be xLet cost of second cycle be 5x

Selling price of first cycle SP1= x(1 - 10/100)= 9x/10

Selling price of second cycle SP2= 5x(1 - 10/100)= 5x*9/10= 45x/10

Now,SP2 - SP1 = 3600(45x - 9x)/10 = 360036x = 36000x = 36000/36 = 1000

Therefore, cost price of costlier cycle= 5x = 5*1000= Rs 5000
