Two adjacent sides of a parallelogram are 24 cm and 18 cm. If the distance betweenlonger sides is 12 cm, find the distance between shorter sides.**steps required**

Answer»

Given :-

  • Adjacent sides parallelogram = 24cm & 18cm
  • Distance between LONGER sides = 12cm

We need to find :-

  • Distance between shorter sides = ?

Solution :-

Let the distance between the shorter side be ‘x’

Lets take a parallelogram ABCD with base AB & base BC . However it has two bases so there will be two heights & let POINT E be the mid point of AB & point F be the mid point of BC . So the height will be DE & DF

And here

  • DE is the distance between longer sides = 12
  • DF is the distance between shorter sides = x

Now as we know that

Area = Base × Height

→ Area = AB × DE

→ Area = 24 × 12

→ Area = 288cm² ....EQ(1)

♦ Area = BC × DF

♦ Area = 18 ( x )

♦ Area = 18x cm² ….eq(2)

By eq(1 & 2)

⇒ 288 = 18x

⇒ x = 288/18

⇒ x = 16cm = distance between shorter sides

Hence , distance between shorter sides = 16cm
