Answer»

Given:

  • Sum of two numbers is 90.
  • of the LONGER number is 9 more than twice the smaller one.

Need to find:

  • Numbers?

Solution:

Given that,

  • Sum of two numbers is 90.

So,

Let's consider smaller number be X.

Therefore, Longer number will be (90 - x).

According to the Question:

  • ⅓ of the longer number is 9 more than twice the smaller one.

➯ 1/3(90 - x) = 2x + 9

➯ 90 - x = 3(2x + 9)

➯ 90 - x = 6x + 27

➯ - x - 6x = 27 - 90

➯ - 7x = - 63

➯ 7x = 63

➯ x = 63/7

➯ x = 9

Therefore,

  • The smaller number is, x = 9
  • The larger number is, (90 - x) = 90 - 9 = 81

∴ Hence, the two numbers are 9 and 81.
