The solution of the equation x+y=14 and x-y=4 is

Answer»

Given : -

the solution of the EQUATION X+y=14 and x-y=4

To FIND : -

Find the value of x and y

Solution : -

Solve this question by elimination method

  • x + y = 14 ---(i)
  • x - y = 4 ---(II)

Adding both the equation

=> (x + y) + (x - y) = 14 + 4

=> x + y + x - y = 18

=> 2x = 18

=> x = 18/2 = 9

By substitution method

substitute the value of x in equation (ii)

=> x - y = 4

=> 9 - y = 4

=> 9 - 4 = y

=> y = 5

\large{\boxed{\bf{Required\:value\:of\:x=9}}}

\large{\boxed{\bf{Required\:value\:of\:y=5}}}

Verification : -

Putting the value of x and y in both the equation

  • x + y = 14

LHS

=> x + y

=> 9 + 5 = 14 = RHS verified

  • x - y = 4

LHS

=> x - y

=> 9 - 5 = 4 = RHS verified

Hence , both the equation verified
