1.

The perimeter of a rectangle is 34 cm, area 60 square centimeter. Find the sides

Answer»

Let x be the length

Perimeter 34 cm, therefore width will be 17- x cm

Perimeter = 60 cm, therefore width be \(\frac{60}{x}\) cm

\(\frac{60}{x}=17-x,\)

60 = 17x - x2

x2 - 17x + 60 = 0

\(x=\frac{17\pm \sqrt{289-240}}{2}=\frac{17\pm 7}{2}=12,5\)

x = 5 cm

length = 12 cm therefore width = 17 – 12 = 5 cm

length = 12 cm ,

width = 5 cm
