1.

The mass of a body is reduced to half its initial value and the velocity is increased to twice its original value. What is the new kinetic energy?

Answer»

Well let’s interpret this into the KINETIC Energy equation, K.E=1/2mv^2. For the first body of MASS, we will have m=4 and v=5, and the second body of mass will be m=2 and v=10. K.E1=1/2(4)(5^2), =1/2(4)(25), =1/2(100), K.E1=50 Joules of Energy. K.E2=1/2(2)(10^2), =1/2(2)(100), =1/2(200), K.E=100 Joules of Energy. As you can see, when the body of mass is halfed and its VELOCITY is doubled compared to another body of mass in motion, it’s Kinetic Energy will be doubled compared to the first body of mass in motion.
