1.

The length of a hall is 18 m and its width is13.5 m. Find the least number of square tileseach of side 25 cm, required to cover the floorof the hall,(i) without leaving any margin.(ii) leaving a margin of width 1.5 m allaround.

Answer»

1. Without leaving any margin:

Length of the Hall = 18 Mtrs = 1800 cms.

Width of the Hall = 13.5 Mtrs = 1350 cms.

Area of the Hall = Length x Width = 1800 x 1350 = 2430000 Sqr. Cm.

Area of the squre tiles = Side x Side = 25 x 25 = 625 Sqr. cm.

So the no. of tiles required = 2430000/625 = 3888 Nos.

So cost of the tiles = Rs. 6 x 3888 = Rs. 23328.

Ans: 1: 3888 Tiles and Rs. 23328.

2. Leaving a margin of 1.5 Mtrs all around:

Actual length of the Hall after leaving a margin = 18 - 2 x 1.5 = 18 - 3 = 15 Mtrs = 1500 cms.

Actual width of the Hall after leaving a margin = 13.5 - 2 x 1.5 = 13.5 - 3 = 10.5 Mtrs = 1050 cms.

Area of the Hall = Length x Width = 1500 x 1050 = 1575000 Sqr. Mtrs.

Area of the tile = 25 x 25 = 625 Sqr. Cms.

So the no. of tiles required = 1575000 / 625 = 2520 Nos.

So cost of the tiles = Rs. 6 x 2520 = Rs. 15120.

Ans: 2: 2520 Tiles and Rs. 15120.
