The dis between two stationsA and B is 540 km. Two trains start simultaneously from these stations on parallel tracks to cross each other. The speed of one of them is greater than the other by 5 km per hour. If the distance between these two trains after 3hours of their start is 165 km find the speed of each train?

Answer»

Let the speed of one train is X km/h

then the speed of ANOTHER train is (x+5)km/h

distance travelled by first train in three hour is x*3=3x

distance travelled by another train is(3(x+5)=3x+15

the TOTAL distance travelled by two trains are 3x+3x+15=6x+15

acc.to.ques.

6x+15=540

6x=540-15=525

x=525/6=175/2 km/h

speed of another train=175/2+5=185/2 =92.5 km/h
