The capacity of a closed cylindrical vessel of height 1 m is 15.4 liters. How many square meters of the metal sheet would be needed to make it?

Answer»

Given,

The capacity of a closed cylindrical vessel of height 1 m is 15.4 liters.

Height of the cylindrical vessel = 15.4 litres

= 0.0154 m3 [1m3 = 1000 litres]

Let ‘r’ be the radius of the circular ends of the cylinders, then

πr2h = 0.0154 m3

3.14 x r2 x 1 = 0.0154 m3

or r = 0.07 m

Again,

Total surface area of a vessel = 2πr(r+h)

= 2(3.14(0.07)(0.07+1)) m2

= 0.470 m2
