He was an academician, educator, and folklorist, but he is best known for his collection of folksongs known as the ‘Child Ballads’. In 1876, he was named Harvard’s first Professor of English. During that time he began his work on the ‘Child Ballads’. They are a major contribution to the study of English language folk music. |
