The average speed of a train is six times of the average speed of a car. If the difference between the time taken by them to cover a distance of 870 km is 145 hours then determine the average speed of car?1. 7.5 km/h2. 6 km/h3. 5 km/h4. 4 km/h |

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : 5 km/h As we know, the time taken is inversely proportional to the average speed if the distance covered is constant. Given, ratio of the average speeds of train and car = 6:1 Then, ratio of the times taken by train and car = 1:6 Let t and 6t be the times taken by train and car respectively. According to question, 6t – t = 145 ⇒ t = 145/5 = 29 h and 6t = 174 h Thus, the average speed of car = 870/174 = 5 km/h |
