Ten passengers were sitting along with theboatman in a boat. The average weight of the 11people was 61 kg. If the boatman is replaced byanother boatman weighing 52 kg, the averageweight of the 11 people would dip by 2 kg.What is the weight of the former boatman?(A) 59 kg(B) 61 kg(C) 68 kg(D) 74 kg

Answer»

Let the weight of former boatman be x kgs. Now total weight of 11 passengers with former boatman =61 x 11=671 kgs. Again total weight of 11 passengers with second boatman (excluding former boatman)=(61-2) x 11=649 kgs. Now according to the sum 671-x = 649-52. Solving this we get x=74 kgs. Weight of former boatman is 74 kgs
