Answer» Answer: i) The reactant is H2O2(Hydrogen peroxide) and the catalyst is MnO2 (Manganese(IV) oxide ). ii) Manganese dioxide catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. iii) Oxygen is collected by the downward displacement of water because it is only slightly SOLUBLE in water and is less dense than water. It cannot be collected by downward displacement of AIR since oxygen is slightly HEAVIER than air and also it will get MIXED with other gases in the air. iv) H2O2(Hydrogen peroxide) is preferred for lab preparation of oxygen because of the following reasons.
