Sound waves A & B are travelling in two different media. Find which wave will [2] be travelling faster, when:(i) A is travelling in water and B is travelling in CO2.(ii) A is travelling in CO2 and B is travelling in hydrogenAlso support your answers with reasons

ANSWER:

(i) WATER

(ii) CO2

- Speed of the sound depends on density of the MEDIUM through which it travels.

- Higher the density higher the speed of sound.

- If we arrange given media by DESCENDING order of density -

Water > CO2 > H2

Case I -

- As density of water is more than that of CO2, sound will travel faster in water.

Case II -

- As density of CO2 is more than that of H2, sound will travel faster in CO2.

Hope this helps you!
