Solve : Zip Files?

Answer»

Hello, I had zip files on my desk top that I saved on my desk top and now I am unable to open them. I think I changed a setting or something on my computer. Now, the zip files is showing up on my desk top as Media Center. Before, if looked like a folder with a zipper. Can anyone help....I am not computer savvy at all. I was trying to unzip the file and must have changed it some how. I need to CHANGE it back, I even tried to download it again to my desk top and it still is showing up as a media center file. I right clicked on the folder and clicked on open with to try and find my zip software but couldn't find it. I don't even know what software I had I guess it came on my computer.

Any help is apprecited! Try opening the preferences of the program you want to use to open the zip files. Find the file TYPE associations list, and change it so the program is the default for opening zip files. If you're not sure how to do this, post back with the name of the program.

If that doesn't work, and if you are sure they were zip files, try right clicking on the files. Select "rename" and name it something different, adding ".zip" at the end. But the above should work.Thank you for RESPONDING.....I really don't even know what the software was that I was using to open zip files. It was on my computer when i purchased it 1 1/2 ago. I will try and find out which one it was.Try these for opening zip and other formats:

http://www.freewarefiles.com/PeaZip_program_24263.html

They're all free.http://www.7-zip.org/ is one of the best.Yes, but some of the ONES I suggested unzip more types, along with 7zip files.Actually i thought 7Zip opened/worked with the most amount of formats...Peazip:

7Z, 7-Zip sfx, ARJ, BZip2, CAB, CHM, CPIO, DEB, GZip, ISO, JAR, LHA, LZH, NSIS, OOo, PAQ, PEA, QUAD, RAR, RPM, split, TAR, Z, ZIP

7-zip:

7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, RAR, CAB, ISO, ARJ, LZH, CHM, MSI, WIM, Z, CPIO, RPM, DEB and NSIS

7-zip may be great, I just don't prefer it.
