Solve : XP reinstall failure.?

Answer»

I was hoping somebody could perhaps give me some help.  My mom's Dell Dimension 2400 was experiencing extreme lag, so she decided to try reformatting it.  However, she ran into some complications and couldn't complete the process.  I tried taking a look, but I can't FIGURE out what the problem is.  The computer is stuck in the middle of trying to reinstall Windows XP because it always fails.  When I start it up, it prompts me to insert the Microsoft Windows XP: Home EDITION disc.  After doing so, the computer starts installing, but it stops about halfway through and displays a message on a blue screen...

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware of software is properly installed.  If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems CONTINUE, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.  If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select ADVANCED Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

If anyone can offer any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.  I'd hate to have to take the computer in somewhere.  Thanks.Have you disconnected all the peripherals so that their drivers are not trying to install? If not then do so and install the peripherals one at a time.

Just for sake of elimination (and good practise) run MemTest86 on the RAM to look for errors, run the drive manufacturer's drive diagnostic diskette over the drive and make sure that the XP SP2 CD which you are using to do the install is scrupulously clean, unscratched and not cracked.

If there are any doubts about the CD then make a working copy on a good quality CDR.BAD_POOL_CALLER

Maybe one of these will help
