Answer» OK so on one of my new PC's I have Windows 8 and I'm struggling with getting an Xbox controller WORKING.
I will take you through the steps already tried.
I have tried the controller on my Windows 7 LAPTOP and it plug and plays absolutely fine.
I have tried Microsoft's DIRECT driver download but the installation always fails with a 'invalid data' warning. This is whilst installing under Windows 7 64bit and in compatibility mode.
I have tried to UPDATE through Windows update and it always RETURNS 'Fail' to install.
I have copied the driver from my Windows 7 machine to my Windows 8 pointed to it and it still does not work.
When the controller is plugged in it shows up in device manager as 'controller' but with a yellow warning. I tried updating the driver from there and it fails. I tried searching online and searching my own computer for the driver but each install attempt results in 'invalid data'.
Running out of options hopefully someone can help.
Thanks in advance.
Make sure you are using a powered USB Port. That's all I can think of; Windows 8 apparently includes XBox 360 Controller drivers Out-Of-The-Box as far as I can tell.
What is the error code/message in device manager for the Controller?Worth a Shot...
