Solve : Wndows Media Player problem?

Answer»

I have an audio book comprising 22 discs that I want to rip to transfer to my MP3 PLAYER. Using Windows Media Player I loaded them in sequence and all seemed to be going well ("ripped to library" and normal ejection after each disc. etc.).  After several discs had been ripped I checked the library and found that only 4 was listed.  I persevered and after the 12th disc I checked again - no change.  I thought that maybe the missing ones had been sent to some other folder, but I can't find them anywhere.  I find it odd that they seem to have disappeared -  I have ripped books of more that a dozen discs several times with no trouble. I tried "search" with no success - that just brings up the 4 discs that were ok.  Advice appreciated about what to check or do next.
I have Vista and plenty of hard disk spaceOne problem you might be running into is if the naming convention is the same between the discs that are ripped, the LAST disc to run overwrites a prior ripped file. You may need to rip them 1 at a time and then manually move the mp3 file to a safe location separate from the drop location of the ripped mp3 file. And doing them 1 by 1 and manually moving you should have all 22.

I had a similar issue happen before with some GREATEST hits albums etc where they overwrite each other with a multi disc greatest hits album when making MP3 for MP3 player.

Having only disc 2 and disc 1 missing was a dead give away when it HAPPENED between 2 multi disc greatest hits albums which would rip a file like Artist Greatest Hits.mp3 instead of Artist Greatest Hits 1.mp3 and Artist Greatest Hits 2.mp3Thanks for reply, DaveL - I think you are probably right about overwriting - I hadn't thought of that, but it would explain another anomaly in my procedure.   When I rip a disc I usually edit the title (---- disc 1, 2, etc.).  I started to do this with disc 1 and found that the title included the disc number, so I didn't bother with the other discs, but during the operation I did find that the other discs showed the wrong number (assorted 1 to 4!).  I'll delete all that I've done and start again with correct disc numbers edited in and see if that works ok.
Thanks again.Just for info - I started from SCRATCH and edited the discs, before the rip: "Title disc 1" then disc 2,3 etc and it has worked - the all transferred to library in correct order.Cool to hear that the added procedure to avoid overwriting prior rips worked.
