Answer» I have RECENTLY purchased a NEW computer which runs Windows XP. My previous machine ran Windows 98.
I have loaded some software from my old machine onto the new one. I've been having problems with these programs. For example, I loaded Publisher 97 onto the new machine.
I can open Publisher, create a new document, but every now and then (especially when printing) the software crashes.
I've been into Properties => Compatibility and adjusted settings there, but to no avail.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any solutions??
Thanks!
Buff Solutions? Yes, upgrade your Publisher to a more current version. Publisher 97, when written, was barely aware of Windows NT Workstation, much less Windows XP. So if you need to use it either upgrade it or use the old adage "Save early and save often"Buff:
Gussery is right, but this *might* work:
1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Program Compatibility Wizard.
2. In the "Welcome to the Program Compatibility Wizard" page, select "I want to locate the program manually" and click Next.
3. In the "Which program do you want to run with compatibility settings" page, click Browse.
4. Navigate to the FOLDER that holds the Publisher 97 executable (.EXE) program, click to select it and click Open.
5. In the "Select a compatibility mode for the program" page, choose "Microsoft Windows 98/ Windows Me" and click Next.
6. In the "Select display settings for the program" page, make sure all the check boxes are cleared and click Next.
7. In the "Test your compatibility settings" page, click Next.
After verifying that it works, return to the Wizard and follow the rest of the steps. There is no guarantee this will work, but it's WORTH a try!
Quote Yes, upgrade your Publisher to a more current version.
Too true, however I might try pcdoc4christ's suggestion first.
Thanks to you both. I'll report back the results.
Buff Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to purchase the program
Thanks for your help and advice!
