Answer» I'm using Windows Millenium, and I'm quite sure my computer is virus and spyware free.
I tried to run disk defrag, and it said I had problems and had to run scandisk, and every time I run scandisk, it freezes.
Any help would be great.download spysweeper from webroot.com.....and run it.....
what option did you chose in scandisk......standard or thorough...... and disk frag said something ......it has tried 10 to defrag this drive......diable the screensaver.....or do the scandisk/defrag/virus/ SCAN in safe mode///hold down the f8 key on boot up....what anti-virus program.....have you got??/I don't have spyware, I have zone ALARMS pro firewall, and AVG free version and the NEWEST ad aware. I did have a lot of viruses in my restore file, but I learned how to turn it off then I eliminated them.
I tried both, the throuogh and standard, in safe mode, all I remember is disk frag saying that there are errors that I can fix in scandisk.
run scandisk in safe mode....hold down the f8 key on boot up>>chcoe the start windows in msdos prompt C:\WINDOWS * now type scandisk << Reduce the System Restore cache to remove all of the old restore points. What's that? Windows ME has a problem? Tell me something I don't know... Anyway... How much RAM do you have? Do you have any major processes running while you start scandisk?
[glb]Flame[/glb]Etahn it is probably better if you use an ME bootdisk and boot into DOS then choose Minimal boot to get you to the DOS prompt.
There you should type: A:\>scandisk /all /surface
This is the thorough scan and will take about one hour per 10 Gb of drive-space.
