Solve : Windows Media Player/Internet Explorer problems?

Answer»

I left my computer on to RUN during Disk Cleanup and I UNCHECKED Windows Media Player. Which means it wouldn't be cleaned (...right?)
And Windows Media Player is RUNNING. But the Desktop icon is gone and the Mini-Mode option in the taskbar isn't there anymore. *censored*?

No Internet Explorer icon either...More information please
What windows are you running?
What kind of disk cleanup utility did you use?
Is it only your desktop icons that have disappeared? I.e. do you still have start menu /quicklaunch icons?Quote from: Deerpark on September 17, 2007, 03:58:58 PM

What kind of info?
Windows XP
The one found in Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup
Yep, still have Start Menu. And it seems LIKE only the Windows Media Player Icon and Internet Explorer tools have disappearedHmm...
Exactly what kind of clean up did you do?
If you merely selected Disk Cleanup and selected the Disk Cleanup tab there is no option for cleaning anything related to Windows Media Player.
Did you select More Options and choose "Clean up..." under the Windows Components section?Yeah, I did the More Options clean up.Well then you've uninstalled WMP and Internet Explorer (technically speaking they're not really uninstalled but just hidden and the icons have been removed).
That section controls what Windows Components you have installed. Checked items are installed, unchecked items are not currently installed.
So to restore WMP and IE you have to RECHECK them.

Ok everything worsk EXCEPT no Mini-Mode. It's mostly a toolbar setting, but stillDoes this enabled it?
Right click your task bar
select Toolbars

Oh wait...there's a LITTLE more -_-
When I open like an mp3 or an avi by means of "File > Open", it won't show up. Even though the "Media Type" files are selected below it. So it won't show the mp3's and the AVI's unless I tell it to show me the files or the "Any file" SELECTION. How do I make it so all the Music and Video files will show up when the "Media Files" filtering (I guess?) is selected. I tried changing it to "Play all of the file types" in the Options settingsJust for reference in future when running any maintenence utilities including but not limited to defrag, disk cleanup or any protection programs the machine should be at idle with no other tasks running...
