Solve : WIN XP, SP@, No Drives in My Computer? |
|
Answer» I have lost the drives in My Computer when I click on the Desktop Icon or go to Start My Computer. It worked before. I have seen that the registry controls whether it works or not. Here is my entry. Can someone who has WIN XP, SP2 please post their full entry . The entry is: was told to set the C:\ Windows folders to read/write before I ran the NFW 2.0 install which is what I did and from that point on My Computer does not show the drives. I was told that the registry entry above controlled whether My Computer would work. whoever told you these things should not be asked for advice in the future. How exactly did you do the former? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191579 TweakUI download: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe TweakUI can be used to reshow the drives; if they aren't being shown as a result of a change to the registry. Thanks BC-Programmer. You are right about the guy who got me screwed up. I'll try TweakUI. Regards, Bob.Hi BC_Programmer. I installed TweakUI. When it opened I clicked on My Computer in the left column and clicked OK nothing happened. I tried to cancel and it would not cancel and close. I had to CTRL-ALT-Delete and click TweakUI to get it to close. Bob. I installed TweakUI. I finally was able to open up My Computer in TweakUI and in the drives section all my drives are checked and do not have the little red area at the bottom of the icon like the unused drives have. I tried to cancel and it would not cancel and close. I had to CTRL-ALT-Delete and click TweakUI to get it to close. I still have no drives in My Computer on the Desktop or the Start Menu. Bob.Try looking for the VALUE set(0 or 1) for your HideMyComputerIcons{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} on regedit. It MIGHT be set to zero(0) or off and MODIFY it to 1.
