my javascript seems to be disabled (ive checked everything and it SAYS its on), smilies dont work exept for manually typing out, certain websites dont work(hotmail.com comes on w/blank screen), when you incorrectly SHUT it down and it automatically runs a self-diagnostic test, it says to run scan disk for windows because of an invalid long filename. I believe the problem is called jre-1_5_0_12-windows-i586-p-s.exewhen i run the scan disk program, it keeps getting interupted by another program editing the computer. I then shut down every system possible(i cant shut down all of them, then my computer will shut down). It sounds like a virus, but i really dont know. Some other good free antivirus programs to try are SUPERAntiSpyware and AVG.I clicked the top right Java install link? is this right? When i click on Windows Platform - Java Application Platform SDK Update 2 No JDK it takes me to the top of the pageJavascript and Java is not the same thing. Your browser handles Javascript, you don't need to have Java installed in order for JavaScript to function.

Did you install or remove anything around the time this problem STARTED?

It is although a good idea to keep Java up to date for security reasons. Go here to get the latest version.
