Hello, I'm new to this, but I'm at a loss and I really need help. When I turned on my PC today, it started in safe mode; without even giving me the option to choose otherwise. It had been shut down properly, and had been giving me no trouble the previous day; I had even just run Virus scan and it had detected nothing. Anyway, I've tried and I cannot get it out of safemode. When I restart it it goes to a menu where I am allowed to select 'Normal' mode, but once it starts to load it just boots me BACK to the selection screen, except that I can't do anything once I'm there, and end up having to manually reboot the PC.
I have a Gateway Pc that is only about 4 years old, and has win 98 installed; It's definetly never given me trouble like this before. So, can someone help me? Please? This problem is driving me crazy...Do the EDGES of the screen SAY "Safe Mode" or is it just the colors that are messed up?

Right before your computer says "Windows 98" (the loading screen) begin to press the F8 key.

No, really. I had already been through all the new posts on the forum (in the "other" section). There were no new ones. So I went back like 289 posts. Back when there were only a few people on the forum, and when the admin was going mad in responses.
