Solve : W10AU? Do ya want Windows 10 April Update?? |
|
Answer» It was a disaster for me. What about you? It should be noted Geek was havin issues with Win 10 waay before the update was rolled out...just sayin...Yes, I did. So my problem made things hard on the update. I will try again on a more stable machine. Apparently i t twas after May 15 that the bad news started to be reported. Notice this report about the SSD issue: https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3032343/windows-10-april-update-doesnt-play-nice-with-toshiba-ssds-either The image is from the above link. Quote from: Salmon Trout on May 23, 2018, 10:53:24 AM I never had any problems upgrading to Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, (skipped , 8.1 and 10 (all updates).I forgot to mention MS-DOS 5, MS-DOS 6.22, Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11. Geek...no offense...but you originally installed Win 10 on a 40 G HDD...those are kinda old...then you tried on an even older HDD...and you messed up the dual boot enviornment...then you moved on and re-did it again...Just sayin. The problem PC is my Dell 755, which I got refurbished on eBay . Patio, I now have Windows 10 on a 500 GB hard drive that has passed the standard tests. The drive is partitioned so I can have more that one OS and have a partition to store my personal stuff. I also have another 500 GB drive to use as a backup. At this point it seems to be stable. I am not sure what was the problem. I tried four different hard drives and could not isolate a problem on three of the hard drives. The bad hard drive has been retired now. It was not the 40 GB. I am going to clone the PC hard drive in my Dell and try the April Windows 10 update again. *************** My other PC is a newer Gateway with a 64 bit version of Windows 10. I did not subject it to the April update. I am going to wait before I do anything to harm it. The Gateway does not have any problems. (Except the problems ones I create myself.) Quote The problem PC is my Dell 755, which I got refurbished on eBay . Both the Optiplex 755 and the Dimension 755 are affected by the manufacturing problems of electrolytic Capacitors of the time period. I wouldn't expect "refurbished" to mean they inspected board COMPONENTS very thoroughly. I had a dimension 755 which was affected by them and experienced very unusual behaviour for some time before it would simply SEIZE up a few minutes after boot (even in the BIOS)Thanks for the tip, BC. It is an Optiplex 755 and is presently running both Windows XP and Windows 10. There is no visible sign of capacitor failure. But that has little meaning. Electrolytic capacitors, even in best conditions, have a limited life. I may have to stop sing it. Still,I am going to try one more time to see how Windows 10 does on it. As I said, the newer Gateway works fine. But I don't want to use is as a 'sandbox'. So the old Dell gets to be the test box. I will try the Windows 10 update next week. |
