Solve : Vista ,Win 7,Ubuntu?

Answer»

I have a two year old Packard Bell desktop that came with a paltry 512k ddr2 mem and a celeron d360 just enough to run vista basic ,within a year I upgraded the processor to a celeron e1200 and the mem to 2mb ddr2.
Now I have ubuntu also loaded through the wubi site so it is running as a separate op on this comp and not in a window .
But after downloading the win 7 advisor it says you may struggle with mem but I have been told on a few occasions that if your comp flies with 2 meg and vista it will run win 7 no problems.
should I get win 7 for this instead of vista or wait till I build one with a separate vid card as the video mem is shared so I only have 1.7.
The mother board only takes 2 meg max and as it is a crap 250w psu will not tuch a vid card yet
2Gg is more than enough for Win7...
It's hardware requirements are actually less than Vista so whoever told you you need more does not know what he's talking about.

You can still DLoad and install the RC VER. of 7 but i would only do so from a trusted site such as MS's TechNet...
You don't have to neccessarily have to pay the membership but if you register it's still available.

I think you'll be pleasantly suprised...

PS: Between you and me i'd start shopping for a reliable bigger PSU if you plan on any upgrades to this machine at all... Quote from: patio on OCTOBER 05, 2009, 03:48:56 PM

It was the Win upgrade advisor that told me, I think it was to do with the shared mem(no video card)(( is it a conspiracy with computer manufactures lol)  and yes I will be getting a P.S.U as soon as possible and a video card something on the lines of 600+ watt.and another hard drive
It is the crap components P/B have used, if I knew then what I know now would never have got it.
You should listen to Win Advisor about as often as you listen to your Congressman....

By the way, you're all mixed up about your bytes: KB, MB, and GB.  Your computer came with 512MB, not "512k".  And, you upgraded to 2GB, not "2mb ddr2".  And, your motherboard takes 2GB, not "2 meg max".
