Solve : Viruses in photos?

Answer»

Hi,

there is something that I am curious about. I have Yahoo Mail, and whenever you download a photo that is attached to an email, Yahoo has NORTON scan the photo for viruses. I can understand how a virus can be embedded in a text or SCRIPT but how can a virus be embedded in a photo?

ThanksA photo via email is just a file. Any file can have malware attached or embedded.Quote from: cinque8 on December 05, 2013, 10:15:18 AM

Your Yahoo email account isn't telling Norton to scan the files, Norton is monitoring your activity and is initiating the scan. Any e-mail attachment can, hypothetically, have malicious SOFTWARE embedded.

Here is an old STORY. But if you never heard it, it is news to you.
(The story was posted in August.)

Banking Trojans dominate malware in e-mail traffic

Attackers kept with tradition to send out emails with malicious links imitating messages with links to breaking news. For example, the excitement around the birth of the royal baby was utilised in advertising printing services and advertising equipment. In honour of the event the company offered DISCOUNTS for roller stands.

Yes, it was big-time fraud by email using a 'Trojan.'Hey thanks for all of the replies!
