Solve : User groups?

Answer»

Ok...
I have a computer.
I have QUITE a few other users on my computer and do not want them to be able to make system WIDE changes such as accessing permissions. However I still want my users to be able to install programs which I do not see as being a big deal.
If I set them as  'User' they cannot install programs,
If I set them as 'power user' they can make all SORTS of system wide changes that I do not want them to be able to make.

Does anyone have any idea how I can grant a user acount permission to install programs without uprgading it to a power user or administrator?  Thanks .Which Operating System? In XP, I know that Limited access will do the trick...

[glb]Flame[/glb]Limited access will not allow users to install software.Are you sure? (dumb question)  I've done it before on my computer... Then again, my computer seems to have come from *censored*, and is posessed... Who knows about mine...

[glb]Flame[/glb]I am very certain that Limited users are not allowed to install software. See for yourself. It will tell you this before creating a new account. Quote

There are some tools out there like Tweak XP ETC that can hide certain adminsitrative / important features under XP.

You might want to learn more about Windows XP policy settings. You can do a lot there.

If your users are not too handy with PC's then set the NTFS rights on the Administrative tools folder to Administrator only.

There is a lot you can do to make a PC idiot proof and still play new games. look for Policies, Policy tools.

click start->run and type MMC
Add a new snap-in called Security analysis. (study before blindly doing) and change the out-of-box status to more secure etc.

Hope I steered you in the right directionMy users are not handy with pc.
