I've heard a lot about the air and space museum as well. Definitely worth a stop.

Have you/anyone been to the USS Intrepid in NYC? That seems cool.

The original air and space museum is on the mall by the Capital and the White House. There is a second one near Dulles airport that I haven't been to but I've heard a lot of good THINGS about it.

The Intrepid was set up after I left the NYC area, but I've been through several other Navy ships set up as museums, and I would highly recommend a tour of any ship you can find.Ever heard of the show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives"? It's on the Food Network and they tour the country looking for good places to eat. Here's a link to the blog http://dinersdrive-insanddives.blogspot.com/

I'm trying to talk my wife into going on a cross country road trip and it's looking like the only way it will happen is if we stop at the local diners on the way. HOPE you have fun.Oh, I thought I had replied to this topic.

Road trip has been PUT on hold indefinitely. *censored*...Carbon, Sorry to hear of your trip plans having changed (hopefully only delayed). I have travelled the U.S. extensively for over 35 years and have been in every state except Alaska and Hawaii so if you get back on track and WANT recommendations PM me and I'll be pleased to give you the benefit of my knowledge and experience. I still traverse a substantial PORTION of the states you will go through twice a year.truenorthThanks for the offer Truenorth.
We're still going to the states (Texas), just not on a road trip. Depending where in Texas you will be going to and the mobility you will have once there some things to concider:
1.For a good restaurant experience you cannot go wrong with most TexMex restaurants (my impression was that the more run down on the outside the better the grub on the inside).
2.The Johnson Space center south of Houston (name may be something different now) is worth a visit.
3. If you end up close to a U.S./Mexican border location (such as near El Paso) leave your car on the U.S. side and walk over to the Mexican side. Quite an experience.
4. Houston is a very modern city and has a lot of cultural activities if that is to your liking.
5.There is a very popular and long running live entertainment show (broadcast on TV) based in Austin Texas called "Austin City Limits". If you can get tickets for that i believe you would enjoy it.
6. If your near enough a visit to the Alamo is a must for it's historical significance to the state of Texas.
Bon Voyage, truenorthShould have clarified a bit further. Like every winter, going to Texas to visit family.

Thanks for the great suggestions though. I know for sure we're going out to Austin for a few days. Definitely going to try and stop by the Alamo Drafthouse. If you are still starting out from Boston i can recommend one of the best eateries in the world there.truenorthHaha alright. I'll let you know if we change our plans.I suggest you all to start form Freedom tower.
