Solve : Unable to send/receive outlook.com emails using email client?

Answer»

Fed up with the mountains of new spam I get every day, I've just got myself a new email ACCOUNT with outlook.com. All works well using webmail but I just cannot SEEM to send/receive emails using my email client (Windows Live Mail). I've entered settings (and checked for errors!) as per the following:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/mail-sync/are-there-pop3-settings-for-outlookcom/8515bbdb-14bd-487b-86c1-bea3edf6a24f

When I click send/receive I always get the following error message:

The host 'smtp.live.com ' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.

Subject ''
Server: 'smtp.live.com '
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0D
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 587
Secure(SSL): Yes[/color]
Socket Error: 11004

I have tried port 25 also, with no success. Any ideas?!

I must say that trying to get help from Microsoft is impossible! Their forum doesn't accept my question and their live help does not support outlook.com! Maybe I should GO for a gmail account?!!What are your Port settings at right now ? ?Quote from: cosmicjazzer on February 10, 2013, 10:26:36 AM

I have a live.com account and just tested it in Windows Live Mail using port 25 and port 587 and they both worked.

I noticed a space after the server code inside your single quotation marks. Do you have a trailing space in your account settings? If so, I believe that would cause an error. This REFERENCE might help: http://wiki-errors.com/socket-error-11004-on-your-pc/Thank you for both REPLIES. Much appreciated.

soybean you are a genius! It was indeed the space that was the issue and my problem is now fully resolved. I look forward to a spam-free existence.

Thanks again.
